Chemical Peels Chemical peels are a skin exfoliation procedure. Exfoliation means to remove the dead cells that build up on our skin resulting in the dull appearance. By removing the dead cell layers you will reveal new younger looking fresh skin. There are two methods available to remove the dead cells with no down time. Microdermabrasion is a mechanical way to remove cells, however it only addresses the epidermis or top layer of skin.
Chemical peels allow you to reach the dermis or true living layer of skin. This allows cleansing from the inside out. The removal of the top layer of dead cells and debris that clog pores and stand in the way allows you to have healthier looking skin..
Chemical peels are safe, painless, effective treatment which can be customized to address your specific skin type. They will allow skin to be corrected and repair back to a healthy state. They yield best results in a series of 4-6 treatments.
Microlaser Peels are a more aggressive extension of microdermabrasion and chemical peels. In our office the physician utilizes an Erbium laser to remove debris layers quickly. The depth of treatment is absolutely accurate and can be exactly tailored to your need. It can also be used to resurface acne scarring. Based on the depth of treatment the down time of redness on the face and peeling can vary from 3 –7 days, to as long as 10 days. Make-up can be used to cover the initial changes. The advantages of laser peel over chemical or mechanical is longer time between treatments 4-6 months or longer. Laser results in more aggressive resurfacing and more aggressive smoothing of skin. Even laser peels will be improved with some initial removal of surface debris with chemical peels.
All treatments must be followed by proper skin care to maximize long term results. Proper skin after treatment will significantly reduce the need for the number of exfoliative treatments.
