Post Operative Instructions
1. The day of surgery and the next day, relax and keep your leg elevated as much as possible: walk 5 minutes each hour.
2. Wear the compression bandages continuously for 48 hours.
3. On the third day remove the compression dressings. You may take a shower. Put the compression hose (support hose) on and wear them when you are up and around. You do not have to sleep in the compression hose. We have stockings here in the office: thigh highs or panty hose are $45.00.
4. Wear the compression hose for 2 weeks.
5. The Steri-Strips will begin to peel off in approximately one week, at which time you may peel them off. Sutures come out 3-4days here in the office.
6. Take the prescribed antibiotics for 3 days.
7. Return for your scheduled appointment 2 weeks after procedure.
8. Recommended to take Arnica Montana 4 tablets under tongue 4 times daily for 5 to 7 days. This is a homeopathic medication designed to lighten bruising and soreness. We have it in our office or you can purchase it at G.N.C. Nutrition stores.
For any discomfort take Extra Strength Tylenol or the prescribed pain medication. If you are prescribed Motrin, take it as directed until it is gone.
A few days later bruising, soreness is not unusual.
A small amount of oozing is normal. If you feel the dressings need to be changed, please call our office between the hours of 9 and 5.
Wait at least one week before resuming exercising. Light walking is allowed after 3-4 days. Judge this according to how you feel.
Wait at least 2 weeks before getting into a hot tub/spa or pool.
