Treatment

The treatment of venous varicosities and/ or spider veins has not changed in principle for decades. The basic premise of all treatments is to eliminate the vein transmitting pressure. The pressure is a result of non-functioning valves within the vein.

The treatments are designed to stop blood flow within the vein. Once the leaking vein is eliminated the other veins in he leg can work more efficiently.

The real improvement in modern day management of venous disease is the ability to utilize the old principles of treatment with less invasive tools.

In our armament of treatment options today, we utilize sclerotherapy with foam technique, superficial laser for spider veins as an adjunct to sclerotherapy, small skin “nicks” for phlebectomy when the vein has to be removed. The most exciting new treatment is the use of laser inside the Saphenous vein to stop it from leaking. This procedure has replaced stripping of veins.
